Job DescriptionThe Insurance Specialist is a key person on the Benefits Team within the Division of HR. The Specialist assists with educating employees about health insurance and related benefits plan enrollments/changes and acts as a liaison between the benefit plan administrators, the third-party benefit providers and employees to resolve issues. This position is responsible for preparing/updating training material related to health benefits and delivering the information to a diverse employee population during the annual insurance open enrollment periods and during new employee orientation sessions. The Insurance Specialist has the primary responsibility for ensuring health benefits information (including plan elections, changes, terminations) is accurate in multiple systems, ,. The role requires strong communication skills to convey/interpret information both written and verbal to/from employees, team members, vendors and others, and collaborates with the Communications Team and leadership to keep employees informed about important benefits information and must work autonomously as well as part of a team. This position will be tasked with producing accurate and timely reports for a variety of purposes, processing a large volume of data in a fast-paced environment, conducting reviews to confirm data integrity, and tracking data for benchmarking and metrics.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in human resources, business or a related field or equivalent training and/or commensurate experience. Experience providing administrative and/or program support in an academic or professional office environment. Must be proficient utilizing applications such as MS Outlook, and MS Office. Experience with developing professional, easy to understand and compliant communications. Strong organization skills, detail oriented, ability to prioritize work, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to effectively interpret and effectively convey policy information and guidelines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact comfortably with a diverse employee population.
Preferred QualificationsExperience interpreting, explaining and applying HR policies and procedures. Experience working within guidelines of government regulations relating to benefits administration. Demonstrated experience with group health care plans and other benefits including but not limited to life insurance, workers compensation, leave, and retirement. Experience with COBRA regulations and notices. Knowledge of flexible spending accounts. Experience with developing, updating and delivering training materials.
Previous experience with HRIS databases such as Banner. Prior experience with data analysis, problem resolution, and account reconciliations.
