Charlie Woods qualified for the US Junior Amateur, played this year at Oakland Hills, by winning his qualifier in Florida with a score of 71. The Junior Am is for amateurs 18 and under and takes place July 22-27.

I wonder if Tiger is going to caddy for his son. He’ll be playing in The Open which ends on the 21st. If Tiger misses the cut, he’ll be home with days to spare. Even if he makes the cut, I wouldn’t put it past him to fly directly into Detroit to be on the bag. Tiger famously won 3 consecutive Junior Ams in 91, 92, and 93. He then won 3 consecutive US Amateurs in 94, 95, and 96.

Tiger looks miserable walking a course with out carrying clubs. I can't see him caddying.

He’s already done it several times for Charlie

It will be interesting what he does, the event is free admission and I don’t even think they put up ropes like a PGA event. If Tiger decides to go it could make the event a bit of a cluster.

Sure put walking Oakland Hills while carrying the bag is no joke.

He’s done it a bunch already. The big problem will be immediately coming off a week of tournament golf. If he didn’t have that there’d be nothing to it but he could be hurting if he makes the cut.

Even if he's physically able to do it, I would think at some point Tiger becomes a distraction. Without Charley in the field I bet attendance is next to nothing aside from family and friends. Add Tiger on the bag and who knows how many people show up. Even Tiger as a spectator is likely to draw crowds.

Zero Perkins in the area means zero Tiger.

All good for Charlie. Imagine getting into match play and Tiger Woods is carrying the bag for your opponent. Gotta be intimidating and make you have some extra nerves lol.

I don’t think he would but Oakland Hills South is not a tough walk.

It's not brutal but there are some holes with up and down terrain. 8,9,10,11 and 17 come to mind.

Oakland Hills South is an easy walk. Not dead flat but I'd say 2 or 3 out of 10 difficulty at most.

Anyone that hasn't seen or played it since the redo, it's so so good now. They did such a great job. And I say that as not a huge Gil Hanse guy and someone who didn't really love the course before.

Every tee box is right next to the green besides 8 which makes things easier. Major incline walks are all up to the greens; 2,8, 11, 15, 17. Not a bad walking course at all. I think I have about 500 career loops on that course lol

I’ve seen some comments on twitter that USGA rules state that parents cannot caddie for their kids in their events, anyone else know if that’s actually a thing? Would think Tiger shows up either way.

Not a thing unless it’s recent or just a US Junior rule. My dad has caddied for me a couple times.

Edit: looks like it’s a US Junior specific rule.

Looks like it’s a junior amateur rule. I should have googled first. It’s in a USGA rules file from their 2022 us junior am as well

Yeah I just looked too. That seems ridiculous. I’m sure there’s some situation or reason behind the rule but I’d be pissed if my dad/mom couldn’t do it with me.

I’m sure there’s been way too many cases of psychotic parents out there that the USGA just wants to avoid that playing out in their events.

Yeah I don't understand that rule at all unless caddies just aren't allowed in general.
