2018's A Simple Favor impressed both critics and audiences with its fusion of crime thriller and black comedy, and now A Simple Favor 2 is on the way. Directed by Paul Feig, A Simple Favor stars Anna Kendrick as the aptly named Stephanie Smothers, a widowed mommy vlogger who is socially awkward. Her life changes after meeting high-class professional Emily Nelson (Blake Lively), due to their kids both attending the same class. The two become quite close, but after Emily goes missing, Stephanie takes it upon herself to find her.

The accomplished comedy hit-maker spoke candidly about the production of the upcoming sequel and revealed that, as of late-May 2024, A Simple Favor 2 was nearly wrapped. In an era of protracted production timelines, the quick turnaround for the highly-anticipated follow-up is quite promising, though a release date is still elusive.

Furthermore, Bashir Salahuddin will return as Detective Summerville alongside Joshua Satine as Miles Smothers, Ian Ho as Nicky Townsend-Nelson, and Kelly McCormack as Stacy.

Oscar-winner Allison Janney is the first new name added to the ensemble of A Simple Favor 2, but the I,Tonya and The West Wing star's role has not been revealed yet. Janney was eventually joined by a rich ensemble of supporting actors including Elena Sofia Ricci, Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, Alex Newell, Taylor Ortega, Lorenzo de Moor, and Aperna Nancherla. Nothing has been officially confirmed about A Simple Favor 2's story yet, which makes sense, since it will likely be another tale full of surprise twists. The first movie left the door open for a sequel, with Stephanie's parenting-turned-mystery-solving blog now a massive hit, and her beginning a career as a part-time private eye. Never one to be counted out, A Simple Favor's ending saw Emily seeming to turn into an alpha in prison, and while she was sentenced to 20 years, it wouldn't be surprising to see her let out for good behavior.
